Monitoring & Evaluation

Our focus on sustainable development demands that we constantly review and evaluate every aspect of our programmes in a transparent and accountable manner. We integrate ongoing internal monitoring and evaluation into all our programme activities to ensure effective programme operations and pinpoint areas for improvement. Ubuntu must be able to both report to our investors that our management practices and our services are resulting in high social impact as well as ensure that our team is constantly looking to improve our programmes. Ubuntu’s programmes are designed to be responsive to changing community needs. We establish evaluation criteria for each programme area annually and identify key performance outcomes and indicators to ensure success. We use participatory and systems-based monitoring and evaluative processes to ensure quality of service delivery, encourage ongoing learning, identify best practices and make adjustments. Each team leader submits weekly reports based on previously outlined workplans.

In addition, we budget for research and development to ensure that we are staying abreast of best practices in our focus areas. At the organisational level, the presidents are committed to ensuring that our operations are efficient and on the cutting edge of social entrepreneurship. We are governed by a Board of Directors and Advisors and are audited annually by certified public accountants.

While Ubuntu conducts regular evaluations of our programmes to quantify our impact and challenges, the real results can be seen in the thousands of individual children we work with every day. Ubuntu’s 13 computer centres, 7 libraries, and 24 Health Educators reach over 40,000 people. The success of Ubuntu Education Fund lies not just in how many people we reach, but in how deeply we reach each person.
