Our Programmes Empowerment Initiative

Libraries and Computer Centers

Our Libraries and Computer Centers help to improve basic computer, reading and writing skills and inculcate learners with a culture of reading, a love for books and comfort with technology. Ubuntu invests in under-resourced schools by developing computer labs and libraries to create an ongoing resource for learners, teachers and the greater communities.

Ubuntu's 19 media centers are existing classrooms renovated into a room that hosts 25 computer workstations, fiction and non-fiction books in both English and isiXhosa, relevant periodicals, and educational CDs and DVDs. Day-to-day operations are overseen by teachers and administrators with ongoing support, training and assistance from Ubuntu. Libraries and computer centers are integrated into the general school timetable and teachers use these resources to teach their lessons.
