Our Programmes HIV Prevention Outreach

In our communities over 60% of new HIV infections are in the 16 to 22 age group with girls overwhelmingly affected.

Ubuntu's outreach programme focuses on preventing HIV infection by building skills and promoting health-seeking behaviour. Our outreach team uses a variety of outreach activities to increase awareness of personal risk, make knowledge of personal and partner HIV status a relationship norm, increase knowledge of serodiscordancy in couples, promote consistent and correct usage of male and female condoms, and improve awareness and uptake of HIV clinical and community support services.

  • Lifeskills education in 13 primary and eight high schools reaching 14,000 learners
  • Community HIV prevention reaches 30,000 at-risk youth/adults annually
  • Men As Partners encourages men to fight HIV/AIDS and be supportive partners
  • Condom distribution of 1.2 million condoms per year
  • Laíta Programme engages 18 grade 12 students in HIV/AIDS Peer Education
