BUILD Program
Ubuntu Education Fund’s success lies in our ability to integrate global best practices with our grassroots integrity. While we have fundraising offices in New York and London, Ubuntu is really a group of local professionals developing a model for sustainable improvements in their community in South Africa.
We recognize that the most important investment we can make is in building the organization’s capacity, and that begins with the people who work for Ubuntu.
Every day at Ubuntu, our children interact with people from their own communities, with familiar life stories. These people understand the children’s challenges; they have faced the same ones. They are the best possible counselors and role models, and we make sure they have the tools they need to work with the children.
To further invest in our staff, Ubuntu has partnered with the Bertha Foundation to create BUILD (Bertha-Ubuntu Internal Leadership Development). BUILD is rooted in Ubuntu’s holistic philosophy and it is an empowering human resources tool. We deal with much more than job conditions and performance. Through BUILD, we assess staff, train them, give them social and medical services, and track their progress. The benefits are clear: Ubuntu is a highly trained, passionate team changing a community.
