Ubuntu’s UK ER development office aims to raise Ubuntu’s profile in the UK and mobilise our network of donors to support Ubuntu’s current $5 million annual budget and fundraising campaigns, and our Vision 2020 expansion plan. The UK Director is responsible for securing major donations from individuals, foundations and corporations through both event-led and non-event fundraising. Ubuntu’s main fundraising initiative is an annual gala which this year raised £600,000. Ubuntu also holds smaller, Ubuntu Social events throughout the year which aim to encourage a new generation of younger supporters and raise between £10,000 - £30,000.

Role Purpose
We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented intern to provide administrative support to the UK fundraising office. They will join our 4-person London office and 15-person global External Relations team. Office support tasks will include administrative tasks, data-entry and general office support. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to make a positive contribution to Ubuntu’s work in South Africa and the field of international development, while learning how a top level NGO fundraises in the UK, and expand upon their own experience in fundraising and administration.

The role contract will be part time or can be flexible on hours. Minimum contract is 2 weeks; however, we are ideally looking for a candidate that is available to join us for one-two months.

 

Primary Responsibilities
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Assist with database entry, income tracking administration, payment acknowledgement and processing, gift aid claims and filing, on an as needed basis
  • Assist colleagues in the coordination and implementation of electronic and hard copy mail-outs
  • Proof-reading, copying, faxing, mailing, filing, shredding
  • Other administrative duties and projects, as assigned by the UK Director’s Personal Assistant
  • Administrative support for Ubuntu’s events portfolio, especially the UK Gala and Ubuntu Social
  • Manage office and IT equipment, and stationary supplies to ensure the smooth running and effective administration of the UK office
  • Represent Ubuntu in person, writing and by telephone ensuring that supporters receive excellent customer service

    Ideal Candidate
    The ideal candidate will have experience in administration and fundraising, excellent writing skills and be efficient, organised, detailed-oriented, proactive, able to multi-task and problem-solve, positive and competent working both in an independent and collaborative manner. The following skills are essential to this role:

     

  • Exceptional organisational, multi-tasking and time management skills; ability to complete tasks efficiently
  • Passion for fundraising (both event and non-event led)
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including excellent writing skills and experience taking meeting minutes
  • Ability to handle confidential information and projects with professionalism and discretion
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
